With fond memories of their school years and a passion for giving back, 260 JLLers took part in the third-annual JLL Chicago Service Day, held on July 20 at John J. Pershing Magnet School for Humanities in the Douglas neighborhood.
With Pershing’s focus on the arts in mind, we divided into teams and got to work beautifying the school with colorful imagination. Groups created custom murals and mosaics for Pershing’s “Panther Leaders,” as well as a brightly colored outdoor plywood mural and new coats of paint in the hallways. Line games, planter benches and mulching on the grounds around the school added to the outdoor space’s welcoming feel.
“Service Day is a special opportunity for JLL employees to give back to our hometown,” said Manager of Retail Operations Tonia Cerny, who organized the outing. “We’re thrilled to support Pershing and help enhance its humanities-focused experience, providing children with a solid educational foundation and lifelong skills for success.”
Pershing infuses a unique combination of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) into its curriculum. Our projects supported the school’s goal of a holistic, community-based learning environment for students and their families.
“We continue to hear employee feedback that events such as Service Day exemplify the true spirit of our civic-minded culture here at JLL. It’s so rewarding to see our teams come together, collaborate and have a fun day doing some good,” Tonia said.
