Paint roller – check! Hammer—check! Screwdriver – check! As part of JLL’s second-annual Service Day held on June 24, 250 employees got their hands dirty spending an afternoon beautifying 100-year-old Brighton Park Elementary School, located in southwest Chicago.
While planning for JLL’s service day, the school’s staff asked JLL volunteers to create a bright and engaging learning environment for their students. Armed with that goal in mind, the group painted classrooms, hallways and stairwells, built planter boxes and bookshelves and created artistic murals and tile mosaics, among other projects. In addition to giving the school a much-needed facelift, JLL employees raised more than $1,300 to help the school build a dance studio for students.
“It was truly remarkable to watch the school transform over the course of just a few hours,” says Senior Marketing Manager Meredith McNally, who organized the Service Day outing. “Not only did it feel good to know we were making a positive impact on the Brighton Park neighborhood, but it also made me very proud to work for an organization that prioritizes community involvement.”
Through these improvements, the school will be able to expand activities they can offer students, boost school pride and promote Brighton Park as an ideal place for children to start their pursuit of lifelong learning.
“Service Day is a great way to give back to our community as well as a wonderful way to meet new people from other groups within the firm—it’s a ton of fun. This event continues to be my favorite day of the year at JLL,” Meredith says.
